What the work is
Feasibility studies
A written go or no-go against a specific claim, with the reasoning shown. Including the cases where the answer is no, which is the outcome that saves the most money.
Technology selection and de-risking
Comparing approaches on the criteria that will actually decide the programme, not on the ones that are easiest to measure.
Prototype development
Built to prove one thing, not to look like a product. A prototype that answers the open question is more useful than one that demonstrates the parts already understood.
Research collaboration
Working alongside internal teams or academic partners, including grant-supported work where the deliverables and reporting are defined externally.
Where an engagement usually starts
Scoped tightly around a single question, with a defined deliverable and a fixed price. If the honest answer turns out to be that the approach will not work, that is a successful engagement.

This is applied engineering research, not speculative invention. We work on problems where the physics is understood and the question is whether it can be made to work within real constraints.
