The interesting question is not whether a model is accurate. It is where inference should run, on what silicon, inside what thermal and power budget, and how the result reaches the system that acts on it. A detection that never leaves the vendor application has delivered nothing.
What the work is
Deployment onto constrained hardware
Getting a model onto real edge silicon and keeping it there: quantisation, accelerator selection, and the accuracy cost of each trade-off stated plainly.
Power, thermal and latency budgeting
A sealed enclosure in a hot plant has no convection to work with. Sustained inference throttles long before the datasheet figure, and retrofit installations often inherit a power budget set decades ago.
Determinism
An inference that usually takes 8ms and occasionally takes 40ms is a control problem, not a performance one. Where that matters, it has to be designed for rather than measured afterwards.
Getting the result out
Metadata into the customer’s existing system through the protocol it already speaks, including ONVIF Profile M where the consumer is a VMS. This is the step most often left until last and most often responsible for stranded investment.
Honest scoping
Including saying when the edge is the wrong place, and the work belongs on a server or not at all.
Where an engagement usually starts
Typically a scoped proof on your hardware and your data, with the power and latency envelope measured rather than estimated. Enough to make a go or no-go decision with evidence.
